Driver Restraint System Malfunction Bmw

I am having the passenger restraint malfunction happening in my 2011 x5. It had been back to BMW 2 times this week. When this happens the driver seat controls and heater d stop working. They can not figure out what the issue is because when they reset the issue the malfunction can not be duplicated while in the shop.

BMW 5 Series owners have reported 15 problems related to seat belt (under the seat belt category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

Passenger seat/airbag warning malfunction. This warning has been on since I purchased vehicle. It is obviously the common seat mat sensor failure. And it would appear that either my VIN isn't on the previous recall or it has expired for my year and model. But my wife sits in that seat and if we have an accident and her airbags do not deploy whose fault will that be?.

Involved in an accident. Other vehicle going southbound crossed over median strip of highway, hit three cars going northbound, mine was third car to be struck. Offending car did a 360 in front of me, I slowed to about 25 and he moved into me. I struck his rear passenger side corner. I had front end damage over $5k. No airbag, but default messages and an airbag icon came on the video screen and the front instrument panel. It states 'driver and passenger airbag or restraint system malfunction. '.

I had an on & off issue since last week of this year about the airbag & seatbelt warning being illuminated on the dashboard & overhead console of my 2007 BMW 530 xi. It will stay on for a while as I start the car but will turn off by itself after driving a few miles. Now since last week the warning light stays on. The idrive screen shows ' pass. Restraints system fault in passenger-restraints system affecting the airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter. Continue to wear the seatbelt. Have the system checked by BMW service center'. I did some research online about this issue & found out that there is recall NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000. I called BMW of tenafly and informed them about the issue I'm having on my vehicle but I was told that the VIN# of my car is not associated with the recall even though it falls into the same category of make, model & year of vehicles being recalled with the same problem. This is a very serious defect and definitely a safety concern that needs to be addressed.

The following message came on the screen of the idrive of the car when my 76 year old mother was placed in the passenger seat after returning to the parking lot after her's doctor visit: 'passenger restraint system malfunction'. It has been on since.

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

The passenger seat belt warning comes on saying the air bag is in defect, the seat belt is not working but wear seat belt for safety anyway. My car is a 2007 model that was not included in the recall but I am concerned that it was made with defective faults, since there is not enough complaints about them it was not included in the recall. It could have been a broader recall than they thought!! my car is in the shop right now for repairs.

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

My car has the passenger restraint system malfunction message on the navigation screen and also the seatbelt light and the airbag light are illuminated on the dashboard. There is a recall for seat occupancy sensor below and as you can see my car falls within the criteria as the cars affected by the recall but a visit to my local BMW dealer revealed that there was no active recalls under my VIN number. This is an obvious safety issue as airbags will not deploy and the risk of being seriously hurt or killed. This is something that BMW should replace in my car under the recall as it has the same malfunctioning part such as the cars listed below. Recall id # 57362 - air bags:frontal recall date Aug 05, 2008 recall date: Aug 05, 2008 model affected: 2006 BMW 3-series summary: BMW is recalling 200,000 my 2006 3 series sport seat, my 2004-2006 5 Series standard and sport seat, and my 2004-2006 x3 passenger vehicles. Depending on the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit, small cracks have developed in the mat. If this occurs, the front passenger air bags, with the exception of the head protection system, will be deactivated and the air bag warning lamp as well as the passenger air bag 'on-off' lamp will be illuminated. Consequences: in this situation the front passenger air bags will not deploy even if a sufficiently severe accident would occur and occupant protection provided by the system would not be possible. Remedy: dealers will rework the front passenger seat sensor mat so that external force application to the seat does not cause a crack to the mat. The recall began on November 6, 2008. BMW will also extend the warranty on these vehicles to 10 years from first registration without any mileage limit. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417. Potential units affected: 200000 notes: BMW of north America, llc.

Vehicle keeps saying passenger restraint malfunction. Passenger air bag will not deploy in an event of an accident. There was a recall for the year 2004-2006 models, for the same reason (passenger restraint malfunction). The recall does not cover the 2007, 2008, 2009 model. The car has never been in an accident, and I feel like if it does, my passenger air bag should deploy when there is a body occupying that seat. The car says the passenger air bag will not deploy when an accident occurs, this is a serious defect. This should not be a problem in any vehicle, let alone a BMW.

Idrive displays seat belt and airbag warning on passenger front seat when occupied by passenger.

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

The passenger restraint airbag/seat belt warning light show up because the mat sensor under passenage seat is broken by normal use. BMW refuse to honor the free fix for this issue and wanted to charge around $1300 for the repair the safty issue.

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

The seat belt's height is not adjustable and too low for a 6ft5in driver. The seat belt often rides on left side of shoulder instead of on top. It is not likely to function optimally in an accident. Dealer has no solution.

Passenger restraint malfunction illuminated on the dash. It indicates that the seat belt lock and/or airbags may not work in an event of an accident. When I called BMW, they told me that my car is not covered under this recall and it will depend on my local dealership if I will have to pay for the repair.

The contact owns a 2004 BMW 5 Series. The contact noticed a burning smell and felt something burning her leg. She sustained burns to her thigh and buttocks area due to the seat warmer. The manufacturer was unable to assist. The contact was able to locate NHTSA campaign id number 08v384000 (air bags:frontal) for the same year, make, and model vehicle. She also stated that the passenger side air bag was inoperable. The manufacturer advised her to expect a recall on the air bag; however, without a recall, they could not assist. The manufacturer stated that there were no open recalls based on her VIN, but NHTSA campaign id number 04v575000 (seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler) was referenced. The failure and current mileages were less than 54,000.

BMW is recalling 200,000 cars and small SUVs because the front passenger-side airbag could fail.

Driver Restraint System Malfunction Bmw

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that in some of the recalled BMWs it is possible that 'the front passenger airbags will not deploy even if a sufficiently severe accident would occur.'

The recalled BMWs include the 2004 to 2005 5-Series standard and sport seat models, the 2004 to 2006 X3 and the 2006 3-Series with sport seats.

NHTSA reported on its Web site that the passenger-side airbags can deactivate because of wear associated with a passenger getting in and out of the vehicle.

'Depending on the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit, small cracks have developed in the (sensor) mat. If this occurs, the front passenger airbags, with the exception of the head protection system, will be deactivated,' the agency warned.

BMW dealers will repair the sensor system in the passenger seat when the recall begins in late September. BMW will extend the warranty for airbags on the recalled vehicles 'to 10 years from the first registration without any mileage limit,' according to NHTSA.

The warranty extension covers the 2006 6-Series, 3-Series with a standard seat, 2004 to 2005 Z4, 2004 to 2006 7-Series, 2006 X5 and 2004 to 2006 5-Series with a comfort seat.

'Under the extended warranty program, the occupant detection mat in a vehicle that experiences this specific issue will be replaced at not charge to the customer,' NHTSA advises on its Web site.

NHTSA began investigating airbags failures in the BMW earlier this year when the Office of Defect Investigation reported that 'the passenger frontal airbag may malfunction and render the passenger airbag inoperative.'

The models included in the initial investigation were the 2004 to 2006 BMW 5 and 7 series sedans, Z4 convertibles and X3 SUVs, as well as 2006 BMW 3 and 6 series cars and X5 SUVs.
